There are several ways to point a domain name to a different domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. When you own a domain name and you've developed a website through some online service which provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you'll achieve by doing this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the web browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned site from the servers of the third-party provider. It is important to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop functioning, so you cannot have both a CNAME record directing to one company and working e-mail address with a different one. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and sometimes more configuration may be necessary with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record through our Linux cloud hosting is very easy. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in only a few simple steps. You can find a video tutorial within the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you various possibilities - if you set up a company website on our end, for example, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to set up a website using a different company which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain name hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, if you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you'll be able to create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and direct it to the main domain name, so all your visitors are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server with our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it requires just a few clicks to complete this task. The plans are managed through our in-house built Hepsia hosting Control Panel in which you will discover a section devoted to the DNS records of the domains and subdomains hosted inside the account. To create a CNAME record, you will only have to choose the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), key in where the latter is going to be pointed to and save the change. The new record is going to be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Changing or deleting an existing CNAME record within the account is equally simple and takes a click.
